Black oxide treatment adds lubricity and creates small pockets on the surface of the bits that act to hold coolant near the cutting edge. Gold oxide treatment adds lubricity for ultimate cutting and bit performance. Combo drill and tap bits have round shanks with flats onto three sides to reduce slippage of the bit when used in drill chucks. Heat treated, split point bits are self centering, for precise drilling applications.
